Festive Love - My Beautiful Images Of The Bespoke

Red is one of my favourite colours - it’s intense, vibrant and demands attention. I love using red fabrics when making a new creation, and since it’s Christmas (the festive month that commands you wear red!) I thought I’d go through my favourite designs that feature the stunning colour red….

We’ll start off with one of the first coats I had made, what a blast from the past! In my short stint living in St Andrews, I produced a few one-off jackets that I believe found good homes. This one I experimented with patchwork as I wanted to use all the scraps of tweed - something which I try to do to this day as I hate wasting fabric!

Also my hair matched the jacket, so do I get points for festivity?

My next pick is the Dorlin coat. This was inspired by the Jacobites and the shapes of menswear in the 1700s. I adored this coat, it included organic velvet and cruelty-free organic silk. The pockets were hand embroidered too. It was the start of my fascination of the 1700s time period (look at the drape, beautiful swing to it!)

The next pick is the elaborate tartan skirt, which got alot of attention that it has been showcased in fashion shows and magazine shoots (worldwide!). These images were so beautiful, and my fav from all of them. The silhouette and the tulle I believe work with the red tartan perfectly! When I think of this skirt I think of romance and femininity.

Next up is an older piece - the two-tone kilt. Very different to the romantic skirt above, I wanted to again use scraps of harris tweed and make a really bold statement. These photos were taken very informally by my husband, at the end of the pier next to our house. I love all the surrounding winter/autumn colours and the rusty pealing pier. This kilt looked funky with Doc Martins and was warm and toasty for the cold months…

My beautiful model friend Elisa has been such great ‘craic’ when we’re doing a shoot - we always try to do something fun afterwards, whether it be a quick swim or coffee and cake. This Opera coat, used velvet trim and a beautiful peacock lining. We played around with different poses, in particular we tried to conjure up a Russian doll-like theme here, which I love….

Finally this piece, the drape coat, using tweed and tartan, is pretty much the embodiment of festive wear (well I think so, anyway!). This shoot was with photographer Gavin MacQueen and the lovely redhead Francesca. We met on a freezing cold morning on Rannoch Moor, and by the end of the shoot my face and hands were red raw from the wind! Definitely worth it though - those photos are perfect! (Oh and also was featured on front cover of magazine Scottish Woman!)

That’s my top picks of red festive wear, I loved going through all my old photos and hope you saw something you liked also!
